Starting Salary: $45,000+, Commensurate with Experience

The Opportunity

MH Talent Solutions is partnering with Whitin Community Center (WCC) to recruit an Assistant Aquatics Director to join its aquatics leadership team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an aquatics professional who enjoys developing people, creating positive experiences for swimmers of all ages, and taking an active role in the day-to-day operation of a successful aquatics program.

The Assistant Aquatics Director works closely with the Aquatics Director to oversee swim lessons, support and develop lifeguards and swim instructors, coordinate staffing and schedules, and help ensure WCC's pools and programs operate safely and effectively.

This is a hands-on leadership position. In addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities, the Assistant Aquatics Director will remain actively involved in aquatics programming through teaching, lifeguarding, staff training, and direct interaction with members and families. 

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, train, schedule, and support lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, and other aquatics staff.

  • Partner with the Aquatics Director to recruit and train qualified team members.

  • Coordinate staffing coverage for aquatics programs and swim lessons.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and support to aquatics staff.

  • Step in as a lifeguard or swim instructor when needed. 

Swim Lesson Programming

  • Coordinate the swim lesson experience from registration and family communication through swimmer evaluations and future lesson recommendations.

  • Assist with seasonal lesson schedules, class ratios, instructor assignments, and attendance tracking.

  • Support the development and administration of private swim lesson programming.

  • Help ensure lessons are delivered safely, effectively, and in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines. 

Pool Operations & Safety

  • Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for members, guests, swimmers, and staff.

  • Assist with regular facility safety inspections.

  • Monitor pool conditions and chemical levels and maintain required documentation.

  • Ensure pool areas, equipment, and supplies are clean, organized, and properly maintained.

  • Assist with maintenance projects and seasonal pool shutdowns.

  • Respond calmly and appropriately to emergency or potentially hazardous situations. 

Program Development

  • Contribute ideas for new and enhanced aquatics programs.

  • Support programming for children, youth, and adults.

  • Coordinate and supervise aquatics activities for Camp Whitin.

  • Collaborate with WCC's Child Care team to develop age-appropriate recreational activities.

  • Assist with seasonal programming recommendations, scheduling, and departmental budget planning.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate combines strong aquatics knowledge with leadership ability, organization, sound judgment, and a commitment to excellent service.

Required Certifications

  • Current Lifeguard certification

  • First Aid certification

  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification

Additional Certifications or Willingness to Obtain

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO)

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor/Trainer

  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
